Qualifications:

• 15 or more years of current commercial casualty insurance experience and expertise in all coverage areas with a primary focus on liability and automobile lines.
  
• 5-10 years proven business management skills and experience
  
• Successful marketing, sales and underwriting experience in working directly with agents
  
• Broad understanding of underwriting, claims and actuarial
  
• Demonstrated experience in hiring, training, team building, mentoring and performance management
  
• Bachelor’s degree

Skills Required:

• Proven business skills & judgment (e.g. customer acquisition, product portfolio management, competitive assessment and product positioning)
  
• Creative approach and expertise in writing larger and more complex accounts using admitted and non-admitted facilities.
  
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  
• Good analytical skills
  
• Business strategy, planning skills and creativity

Primary Responsibilities:

• Manage New Business and Production Underwriters for Markel Risk Solutions (career planning, coaching, training and performance feedback)
  
• Participate in Strategic Decisions relative Product and Structure
  
• Proactively identify new market opportunities and product offerings
  
• Support cross-sell opportunities by proactively identifying client needs within Markel Risk Solutions and the Specialty Division and coordinating those opportunities with the appropriate underwriters and managers.
  
• Help execute training for underwriters
  
• Review and approve large submissions beyond current Underwriter authority levels
